Custom software is not automatically better than an off-the-shelf product. Existing tools are often faster to adopt and simpler to maintain. The question is whether your team can do its important work without expensive workarounds.
Look for recurring friction: the same information copied between systems, a customer journey that your software cannot support, or a core process that depends on spreadsheets and memory. Estimate the cost of those constraints alongside implementation and long-term ownership.
If the case is strong, begin with the narrowest product slice that removes a real bottleneck. A focused solution can prove the value of a custom system before you commit to a broader platform.
